House M.D. is an American television medical drama that debuted in 2004. The show's central character is Dr. Gregory House (British actor Hugh Laurie, Golden Globe® winner for the series), an unconventional medical genius who heads a team of diagnosticians at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital (PPTH) in New Jersey. Dr. House often clashes with his boss, hospital administrator and Dean of Medicine Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) and his diagnostic team, because many of his hypotheses about patients' illnesses are based on subtle or controversial insights.
After working as a municipal and corporate lawyer, at 31 years old David Shore became a sitcom writer. He then entered the creative staff of “Due South” and thanks to his Law degree specialized in detective stories, writing and exec producing, among others, “NYPD Blue” and “Law & Order” which earned him two Emmy nominations. In 2004 he created a medical-detective TV drama for FOX: the detective is a doctor and the “bad guys” are the diseases. “House Medical Division” is an immediate and worldwide success. The series earned two Emmy nominations as Best Drama and won an Emmy for the episode “House’ Head” written by Shore, besides gaining tons of other nominations and awards.
